Creel And Freinds
Waking up in Mexico for the first time. Part of feels that the first leg of my trip is complete, but the part of me dragging myself out of bed before sun up to ride another 800 miles begs to differ.
Even before I left New York there was a sense of urgency. “You got to get going man. This cat Andy is already in Mexico and if you are gonna have a riding partner through Central America you best make some serious tracks.”
I ride hard, I don’t stop. Gas and go fast, repeat, until dark.
4 days and nights of this and now I am in the desert with just 500 miles to go until I arrive at Creel, Mexico, the sight of the Horizons Unlimited Travelers Meeting and my road partner for the next few months of travel.
The map doesn’t show any roads leading to Creel, just a small dot with the word Creel. I get to thinking, how am I going to find this guy. I have never met him, no idea how old or what he looks like…For all I know Creel is a spread out town with tons of white people and motorcycles…I was right, sort of.
Within 5 minutes of pulling into town I eyed 20 enduro bikes all neatly lined up in front of a cantina. Still in ‘road-dog I fly into the bar and rattle of some questions and complaints without even taking my helmet off. On the receiving end are a gang of dirt laden motorcylists that have been drinking and chilling in Mexico for over a week. I have arrived, by my mind needs to catch up/ slow up a bit.
“Hey man, you must be Xavier, I’m Andy.”
A dusk man rises up from the table and introduces me to the other HU riders. “We are all heading over to the meeting, they have food and beer, let’s go.”
I still have my helmet on, but I am among friends and I am ready to take my time and enjoy my vacation.
